Ford becomes the latest auto company join to NFT world?

Ford Motor Company has revealed its supermarket ambitions. The auto giant is the latest to file a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO).

Trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis tweeted that the American car giant has filed 19 trademark applications for major brands, such as Mustang, Lincoln, Bronco, and more.

aout of 19 applications show that the profile includes different products. These include downloadable artwork, text, audio, and a Ford vehicle intro video. These will be validated by the NFT, digital goods, and NFT marketplace for promoting digital artwork among other things.

The app also mentions “downloadable virtual goods” including vehicle accessories and parts. This is meant for “virtual worlds online” consisting of exhibits held in augmented and virtual reality.

New Trends in the Industry

The auto industry is seeing a trend towards linking to the metaverse, through NFT and digital products. Moreover, long-standing brands, such as Nissan, Toyota, etc. are also announcing space-related projects.

Also with the NFT included with the actual vehicle, it's possible that the NFT could be offered as an accessory when purchasing the card. This could complement the eco-friendly trend of automakers towards electric models

Mike Kondoudis also tweeted earlier this week that 2022 has seen more than 5,800 trademark applications filed with NFT and related services. The second quarter of 2022 alone saw 2351 applications, more than 2087 applications were submitted throughout 2021.

Earlier this year, Mercedes Benz partnered with Art2People to a commission. One-off Mercedes Benz NFT collection based on their G-Class line. Around the same time, Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini announced their first NFT collection.

Keeping up with NFT trends for related industries

British car manufacturer McLaren announced in June this year that its Formula 1 (F1) branch will create the McLaren Racing Collective. This will be an NFT collection of their race cars. The F1 champion himself revealed last month that it plans to introduce NFTs and digital goods.Cryptocurrency exchanges have also taken advantage of the growing retail user interest in NFT. The exchanges have partnered with several teams as sponsors in the F1 World Championship. FTX partners with Mercedes F1, Aston Martin partners with crypto.com. Furthermore, Ferrari is being sponsored by Velas.

The thousands of filings made with USPTO are a sign of the growing adoption of NFT among big names globally. Metaverse is seeing major tech, automotive, fashion and fast food entry.

The NFT industry is predicted to become a $240 billion industry by the end of this decade. This is obvious that everyone wants a part of it.
