Among the states, California has taken the lead with the most basic income trials, implementing programs in cities such as Los Angeles, Compton, Long Beach, Marin County, Mountain View, Oakland, Santa Clara County, San Diego, San Francisco, Sonoma County, and Stockton. A significant portion of these trials is backed by a $35 million, 5-year guaranteed income initiative initiated by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
